On March 15, train C2999 departed from Kaifeng Railway Station to Zhengzhoudong Railway Station, marking the official opening of the Songchenglu–Kaifeng section of the Zhengzhou-Kaifeng Intercity Railway. With this, the entire Zhengzhou-Kaifeng Intercity Railway is now fully operational, reducing the fastest travel time between Kaifeng Railway Station and Zhengzhoudong Railway Station to just 25 minutes.
The Zhengzhou-Kaifeng Intercity Railway starts from Zhengzhoudong Railway Station, passing through Jialuhe Railway Station, Lyuboyuan Railway Station, Yunlianghe Railway Station and Songchenglu Railway Station before reaching Kaifeng Railway Station. The railway spans 57.14 kilometers with a designed speed of 200 km/h. The Zhengzhoudong–Songchenglu section opened in late 2014, while the newly opened Songchenglu–Kaifeng section, located within Kaifeng's urban area, extends 7.17 kilometers with two existing stations: Songchenglu Railway Station and Kaifeng Railway Station.
The full operation of the Zhengzhou-Kaifeng Intercity Railway connects Zhengzhoudong Railway Station, Songchenglu Railway Station and Kaifeng Railway Station, further integrating high-speed rail, general-speed rail, intercity rail and metro networks. This development enhances interconnectivity within the Zhengzhou metropolitan area, improves regional rail infrastructure, facilitates convenient travel for residents, accelerates tourism resource sharing, and promotes the integrated development of Zhengzhou and Kaifeng.
