Starting April 1, CR will introduce greater points redemption discounts for senior frequent travelers, building upon the existing "Railway Loyalty Programme" membership program.
In recent years, the railway sector has implemented a series of senior-friendly service measures covering ticket purchase, waiting, boarding and transportation connections. The 12306 railway website and mobile app now offer a "Senior Version" with larger fonts, bigger icons and high-contrast visuals for easier navigation, serving a total of 12.23 million users. Ticket counters continue to provide manual sales and cash payment options, while 12306 automatically prioritizes lower berths for passengers aged 60 and above when booking sleeper tickets. Additionally, seniors aged 65 and above who call the 12306 hotline using their registered phone number are directly connected to a customer service representative.
To further enhance services for elderly and special-needs passengers, seniors aged 65 and above who are unaccompanied or have mobility difficulties can book assistance through 12306 or at station service counters for designated waiting areas and guidance services. Major railway stations have also introduced priority security checks and verification lanes, along with facilities such as accessible restrooms and automatic lifting elevators to improve travel convenience for elderly passengers.
